Jewish Vilnius - Part 1

The first stop in our family tour of Jewish Vilnius was the only surviving synagogue - the Great Choral Synagogue.  It wasn't our family's synagogue - it was the synagogue for the wealthy - but my bubbe remembered going here to hear famous cantors.
The restoration of the interior is fantastic, and we made sure to leave a contribution for the synagogue's congregation.
From left:  our extremely helpful guide Stephan from the Baltic Roads travel service, my dad Esahr, my aunt Evelyn, and her husband Walt confer.
To the right is about all you can see of the only remaining Jewish cemetery in Vilnius.  There are gravestones on this hill, but it's rather overgrown - not surprising when you consider that there are few people left to take care of it.
