2005 - Southwestern New Mexico

For our winter vacation, Don and I decided that we needed to get as far from city life as possible. This ended up being 3 hours drive from El Paso, and 4 miles drive down a gravel road to Casitas de Gila.

It was both energizing and relaxing. It was amazing that the only noise we heard was Bear Creek, and the occasional horse.

We did a lot of hiking, both around the grounds and further afield. The catwalk hike into Whitewater Canyon was a lot of work, but worth it.

Due to all the elevation changes, you see a lot of different biomes in a single hike or drive.

Even though we keep swearing that we have to go somewhere besides New Mexico on vacations, something keeps bringing us back...
