2011 - Pacific Northwest

We went to the Pacific Northwest this fall with Don's dad Lee and Lee's wife Kathy.

Seattle Seattle as seen from the Bainbridge Island ferry.
me and Abby with Rachel the pig We met up with our former neighbors Michelle and David, who are living in Seattle for a couple of years. One of their daughters and I ham it up with Rachel the pig outside the Pike Place Market.
Don eating a Japanese hot dog Don loves his Japanese style hot dogs with bonito flakes, so it was a happy accident to find a stand just a block uphill from the market.
blackberries Blackberries were everywhere on Bainbridge Island, just as they were at our next stop: Vancouver Island.
entering the Bridge House We stayed at the amazing Bridge House at Point No Point Resort, on the south coast of Vancouver Island about 80 minutes west of Victoria.
view from the PNP Bridge House kitchen This is the view from the kitchen.
ferns everywhere There were ferns nearly as tall as I am everywhere - the grounds were PNW lush, even at the end of the summer.
at the beach Just down a flight of stairs was the Point No Point beach house, and some amazing views.
sunken garden at Butchart Gardens We traveled to Victoria and Sooke a few times during the week. This is the sunken garden at Butchart Gardens - quite an amazing effort to transform an old limestone quarry to this!
mossy roof in Sooke How damp is it in the PNW? Well, we saw a lot of seriously moss-covered roofs!
Bridge House bench It was a wonderfully relaxing trip.
